/room/ began in 2019 in the office adjacent to the / main gallery in SoMa as a space for local emerging artists to create site-specific installations and experimental projects directed by Maxine Schoefer-Wulf. digital /room/ was initiated in March 2020 to support Bay Area-based artists during the COVID-19 crisis. Since then, /room/ has expanded to include online and print projects. At our new location in the Dogpatch, there is a small 6′ x 19′ room just off of the gallery entrance space. This is the new site for /room/, though, at times, /room/ projects continue to move and respond to other sites, like the shelves of the / library.

Artists who exhibit and create projects through /room/ are given the opportunity to engage with the community through public programming, including workshops and artist talks. All participating artists are selected by the / team and guest jurors via a series of open calls and are paid an artist fee.

*We are not accepting submissions at this time.*
